ABOUT US

Welcome to 1922 House Vineyards & Winery, located in central Kentucky, in the heart of bourbon and horse country, just miles from the first commercial vineyard ever planted in the United States.

Our name and logo come from our home, which was built in 1922 and is located on our twenty-five acre farm alongside our vineyard and winery. All our wines are 100% Kentucky Proud, starting from Kentucky-grown grapes and crafted into the finished product onsite here in Jessamine County. Wherever possible, we work to support other local businesses in sourcing supplies for our bottling, marketing, and other materials to make 1922 House Vineyards & Winery a truly local Kentucky experience.

We offer a wide selection of wines, including our specialty dry reds, for which 1922 House Vineyards & Winery has earned multiple awards from national judges. Whether you prefer your wine smooth and subtle or complex and spicy, we’ve got something we think you’ll like. For bourbon drinkers, we also offer a barrel aged wine that’s our current best-seller. And don’t forget to bring along your sweet-wine friends so they can try our selections on the sugary end of the line. Coming soon we’ll have Sparkling wines as well!

Owners, Brian and Karla Young, both descend from grandparents who made a living from agriculture, and in Brian’s case, who had roots in distilling. Neither of us grew up drinking wine but developed a love for it in graduate school during much needed breaks from studying.
Eventually our family histories and our new-found interest in wine merged into what is now 1922 House Vineyards & Winery. We started growing grapes and making wine over twelve years ago and initially sold wine to other regional wineries for bottling and sale under their labels. In 2018, we successfully passed a vote in our local precinct to allow us to sell wine directly from our winery in our otherwise dry county. (Yes, dry counties still exist!)

We owe huge thanks to the help of family and friends who volunteer their time for planting, harvesting, bottling, and of course…taste testing! Thanks also to the University of Kentucky, which both of us attended, for their investment in building knowledge of viticulture and wine-making in Kentucky.

Whether you live here in Kentucky or plan a visit to the area, we hope you’ll give your wines a try. Come visit us for a truly Kentucky experience with artisan wines, crafted in small batches to award-winning excellence.
